Chris Paul and Other topics on the FillingTheLanes Podcast

The guys over at FillingTheLanes had me on their podcast again.  This time I talked about the inherit conflict of interest that the NBA has by owning the Hornets, evaluate some of the trades and free agency signings that have been going down, and generally embarass myself with ridiculous slang like "Hella" (that one is my girlfriend's fault, she says it all the time and it has slipped in to my consciousness) and "shizznits" (that one...well...I got nothing).

As always, you can listen below or you can download the MP3 file on podomatic.  I'm on right from about the 30 minute mark.

Topics we covered include:

  • The NBA seems to have given up all pretext whatsoever that Jac Sperling is actually the governor of the Hornets.  As I detailed in previous articles, there's a huge conflict of interest in the NBA owning the Hornets, because any beneficial move they make will by definition not be a good one for most of the owners.
  • We talk a bit about how unusual it is that nobody took a flyer bid on Gilbert Arenas, Chauncey went to LA for a $2 million steal, and how it's generally a terrible idea to let your star players play general manager.
  • We evaluate some free agency signings, and I bring up that there's probably zero chance any fantasy league commissioner would evaluate the Lamar Odom trade as "fair" and let it go through.
  • Once again, I bring up that the lockout was never about competitive balance. I die a little inside every time some NBA beat journalist repeats this Stern propaganda as if it were fact.

Let me know what you think in the comments.
