The Top 10 Boxscores of the Week

Welcome to the Top 10 Boxscore of the Week, a weekly segment on the Boxscore Geeks where we break down our favorite boxscores of the week. While we do use statistical criteria to guide our choices, this list is subjective. With that said, here's our list!

Derrick Rose - Jan. 23rd

link

  • 35 Minutes Played
  • 21 Field Goal Attempts
  • 2 Free Throw Attempts
  • 12 Points, 27.4% True Shooting
  • 4 Rebounds (1 Offensive)
  • 4 Assists
  • 1 Personal Fouls
  • 0 Steals
  • 1 Turnovers
  • 1 Blocks

Derrick Rose gets the coveted 10th spot on the list, which I usually reserve for a bad game. The Bulls beat the Cavaliers, but no thanks to Derrick Rose, who did his best Kobe impression. The Bulls have a pretty good core of players with Jimmy Butler, Pau Gasol, and up-and-comer Mirotic. They can win in spite of Derrick Rose it seems ... for now.

Manu Ginobili - Jan 22nd

link

  • 19 Minutes Played
  • 10 Field Goal Attempts
  • 0 Free Throw Attempts
  • 20 Points, 100.0% True Shooting
  • 4 Rebounds (0 Offensive)
  • 4 Assists
  • 0 Personal Fouls
  • 5 Steals
  • 2 Turnovers
  • 2 Blocks

The Spurs took down the Lakers. I find that appropriate as everyone considers Kobe possibly the second best shooting guard ever behind Michael Jordan while I'd argue Manu Ginobili ranks higher than Kobe. Manu played a "San Antonio" game, limited minuted but hyper-efficient. Manu won the battle of the old guards this night.

DeMarcus Cousins - Jan. 23rd

link

  • 39 Minutes Played
  • 29 Field Goal Attempts
  • 20 Free Throw Attempts
  • 48 Points, 63.5% True Shooting
  • 13 Rebounds (2 Offensive)
  • 2 Assists
  • 4 Personal Fouls
  • 1 Steals
  • 5 Turnovers
  • 0 Blocks

DeMarcus Cousins scored an impressive forty-eight points, and it should have been over fifty, but he struggled a bit from the line. Of course, he rebounded well too. Oddly he got no blocks, but also kept his fouls down, so overall I call it a wash.

Tyson Chandler - Jan. 21st

link

  • 36 Minutes Played
  • 7 Field Goal Attempts
  • 2 Free Throw Attempts
  • 8 Points, 50.8% True Shooting
  • 20 Rebounds (4 Offensive)
  • 4 Assists
  • 3 Personal Fouls
  • 0 Steals
  • 2 Turnovers
  • 1 Blocks

The Suns were no match for the Spurs, but as a silver lining, Tyson Chandler played like his old self. An impressive twenty rebound outing, which was entirely unexpected out of Chandler this season.

Andre Drummond - Jan. 21st

link

  • 36 Minutes Played
  • 17 Field Goal Attempts
  • 5 Free Throw Attempts
  • 19 Points, 49.5% True Shooting
  • 22 Rebounds (9 Offensive)
  • 1 Assists
  • 2 Personal Fouls
  • 4 Steals
  • 2 Turnovers
  • 0 Blocks

I'm a sucker for twenty rebound games. It's becoming pretty standard out of Andre, not an All-Star starter, Drummond. He could have had a twenty-twenty, but just missed out. I can't even point to free throws as he shot 60% from the line, which is quite good for Drummond.

Ish Smith - Jan. 18th

link

  • 44 Minutes Played
  • 28 Field Goal Attempts
  • 2 Free Throw Attempts
  • 16 Points, 27.7% True Shooting
  • 7 Rebounds (0 Offensive)
  • 16 Assists
  • 0 Personal Fouls
  • 2 Steals
  • 4 Turnovers
  • 0 Blocks

This game hits a lot of my favorites. Ish Smith missed twenty shots! He also got a week high sixteen assists. And, of course, he had the same number of points and assists. In the end, it was a "poor" performance, and the Knicks beat the 76ers by six.

James Harden - Jan. 20th

link

  • 36 Minutes Played
  • 22 Field Goal Attempts
  • 12 Free Throw Attempts
  • 33 Points, 60.5% True Shooting
  • 17 Rebounds (2 Offensive)
  • 14 Assists
  • 5 Personal Fouls
  • 1 Steals
  • 6 Turnovers
  • 0 Blocks

An impressive triple-double out of James Harden makes me break one of my list guidelines, which is that I try to do one box score per game. Sadly, doing everything wasn't enough for the Rockets to win. Of course, losing Dwight Howard a minute into the game may have something to do with it.

Tyson Chandler - Jan. 23rd

link

  • 44 Minutes Played
  • 10 Field Goal Attempts
  • 10 Free Throw Attempts
  • 13 Points, 45.1% True Shooting
  • 27 Rebounds (13 Offensive)
  • 5 Assists
  • 3 Personal Fouls
  • 1 Steals
  • 2 Turnovers
  • 2 Blocks

A game after Tyson Chandler put up big minutes and pulled down twenty boards; he followed it up by putting up even more minutes and pulling down a franchise-record twenty-seven boards. Will he pull down thirty boards next week?

Stephen Curry - Jan. 22nd

link

  • 37 Minutes Played
  • 19 Field Goal Attempts
  • 9 Free Throw Attempts
  • 39 Points, 84.9% True Shooting
  • 10 Rebounds (2 Offensive)
  • 12 Assists
  • 1 Personal Fouls
  • 1 Steals
  • 2 Turnovers
  • 0 Blocks

Steph Curry adds a triple-double to add to his MVP candidacy. He did another Curry favorite, which is to shoot over 75% of his shots from three, and connected on over half of them. I'll probably just save this entry and reuse it in some future week I'm sure.

Andre Drummond - Jan. 20th

link

  • 23 Minutes Played
  • 4 Field Goal Attempts
  • 36 Free Throw Attempts
  • 17 Points, 42.8% True Shooting
  • 11 Rebounds (5 Offensive)
  • 2 Assists
  • 2 Personal Fouls
  • 1 Steals
  • 2 Turnovers
  • 1 Blocks

Andre Drummond may have wrestled the crown for the most talented big that can't shoot free throws from Wilt with this game. Never before in the history of the NBA has a player taken over thirty-six free throw attempts and connect on fewer than fifteen of them. This game was historic for that. It was also the ultimate failed "Hack-a-Shaq" as the Rockets ultimate fell.

That's our list! Did we miss someone? Are any players too high? Well don't worry, we'll be back next week with another one. If you see any boxscores you think deserve consideration, leave them in the comments or tweet at myself (@nerdnumbers), Patrick (@nbageek), or Brian (@boxscorebrian) with hashtag #BSGTop10.
