The Boxscore Geeks Shoot Shows: Andrew Wakschlag

The Show

Andrew is on to discuss his book "10 Squared: An Unconventional Analysis of the NBA." All-time greats, blind spots in fans memory, and NBA refs are the topics that come up in our first episode. If you subscribe to the Boxscore Geeks channel, you can catch these as soon as they come out. Or you can check back here and we'll keep you in the loop.

10 Squared

Andrew wrote, "10 Squared: An Unconventional Analysis of the NBA," which is a must read for any fan of top ten lists and the NBA.

A big motivation for Andrew was to give love to historical greats like Wilt Chamberlain, who younger fans don't seem to appreciate enough.

Andrew takes issue with Bill Simmons Big Book fo Basketball, which has some statistical issues.

Referees

Another thing Andrew's book discusses is how to improve the NBA. More consistent refereeing would be a huge help.

Andrew wants to be clear. He doesn't think the NBA is rigged or that refs are corrupt. Rather, he thinks improvements could be made for play to play and game to game calls.

Referee analytics is a regular topic at Sloan.

Tim Donaghy came up. What's worth noting is that in the book Gaming the Game, the data is analyzed, and a lot of Donaghy's story falls flat.

Look forward to more soon!
